Professor Nehal Bhuta holds the Chair of Public International Law at University of Edinburgh, UK. Nehal works on a wide range of doctrinal, historical, and theoretical questions in international law, international humanitarian law, and human rights law. He is a world-leading authority on autonomous weapons systems and algorithmic warfare. Among his many publications, his co-edited book Autonomous Weapons Systems: Law, Ethics, Policy (Cambridge University Press, 2016) has become a leading text in the analysis of the implications of AI and autonomous systems for the rule of law and human ethics. Nehal will lead the University of Edinburgh collaboration in the Leverhulme Centre for Algorithmic Life, convening the research cluster on Decisions.
